On May 24, the roundtable discussion “The Science World and Authority: an Interdisciplinary Polylogue” was held in Kyiv, in the Club of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine with the assistance of PDP II. The event was aimed to improve the interaction between the executive bodies and academic institutions in order to involve the scientific potential more effectively in the policy making process.
In March 2012 the second issue of “COMMUNICATION”, a collection of articles and essays, was issued by the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers with PDP II support.

On April 26-28 PDP II holds training sessions on "Use of Modern Methods of Law drafting and Analysis" and "Institutes of lobbying and Advocacy: the concept and mechanisms of functioning" for representatives of the Center for Legislative Initiatives of the VR ARC, which includes representatives from the Secretariat of the VR ARC, the Main Department of Justice of the Ministry of Justice in the ARC, academic institutions, the Council of Ministers of the ARC.

Director of the Parliamentary Development Project in Ukraine Eleanor Valentine and the first Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine in the Russian Federation, Vice President of the Association of National Deputies of Ukraine Volodymyr Kryzhanivsky while visiting the Ostroh Academy met with students to share information about the PDP II and in particular about the Parliamentary Internship Program which has been operating since 1995 in the Parliament. Valentine noted that many of the interns after completing the program continue working in the Parliament or other government agencies. Experience gained during the internship will be beneficial to all young professionals who want to work in lawmaking. Valentine invited Ostroh Academy students to apply to the program.

Roundtable "Ensuring access to public information in the context of implementation of European standards of openness and transparency"

On February 8, the PDP II representatives participated in the roundtable "Ensuring access to public information in the contex European standards of openness and transparency." The event was organized by the National Academy of Public Administration of Ukraine. The discussion was also attended by MPs, representatives of the Presidential Administration of Ukraine, the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, State Committee for Television and Radio, and other legislative and executive authorities, scientists, NGO representatives and the press.
The Ministry of Justice of Ukraine, with support from the Parliamentary Development Project, has prepared a short video presentation on the main points of the Anti-corruption Legislation passed in April 2011 which is currently now in force in Ukraine.
The video (in Ukrainian only) has been used in five regional trainings of Civic Councils.

“Information Fair 2013” Opens at theVerkhovna Rada of Ukraine
KYIV- The Verkhovna Rada Information Fair 2013 opened today with Deputy Secretary of the the Verkhovna Rada Secretariat Dmytro Markov and U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) Mission Director Jed Barton cutting a ceremonial ribbon at the Verkhovna Rada Session Building.
Information Fair 2013, organized jointly by the Verkhovna Rada and USAID, has become a tradition in Ukraine’s Parliament, providing an opportunity for non-governmental organizations and international donors to present their programs and activities to Ukraine’s legislators. Members of Parliament and various faction and committee staff can use the information in support of their legislative and constituency case work.
