President Viktor Yushchenko has signed changes to the law "On the prosecutor's office", which were adopted by the Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and Party of Regions on September 4. The changes envisage that the prosecutor-general is appointed and dismissed by the president of Ukraine with Parliament's approval, putting the law "On the prosecutor's office" into line with the Constitution of Ukraine.

Parliamentary speaker Arseniy Yatseniuk has said that the latest meeting of the agenda-setting council involving faction leaders was held today, the Ukrainian TV channel 5 Kanal reported. It was busy working out the parliamentary agenda for tomorrow, as this is a plenary session week. Yatseniuk said that the main issue was the formation of the coalition and that "the ice has been broken".

Parliamentary speaker Arseniy Yatseniuk has said he is mulling a political project of his own. In an interview with the Inter TV channel on September 21, he said this would not be a project of "Yatseniuk only" but of "an idea of a strong democratic state".

He denied rumours, which have recently circulated in the media, that he has been discussing this project with businessman and Party of Regions MP Rinat Akhmetov. "If I start building a political project on one or another businessman, a very respected one I'd say, or one or another clan, or on a single personality, this will be a closed joint stock company," he said, adding that in such a case this will not be anything new but a reformatting of the old political scene.

The Ukrainian Parliament today adopted the draft law on the "Procedure of the Supreme Council of Ukraine". Some 349 out of 438 MPs registered in the session hall supported the act. Earlier today the Constitutional Court found the temporary procedure of Parliament adopted on April 8 2008 to be unconstitutional.

The Constitutional Court of Ukraine has ruled the interim parliamentary rules of procedure endorsed by the parliamentary resolution "On certain aspects of legal provision of activities of the Supreme Council of Ukraine" on April 8 2008 to be unconstitutional, it was reported today.
