Five parties and blocs overcame the 3-per-cent barrier at the September 30 2007 early parliamentary election to win representation in the Ukrainian 450-seat Supreme Council (Parliament). Party of Regions gained the most votes in the September 30 poll, winning 34.37 per cent of the vote and 175 seats. The Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc, received 30.71 per cent of the vote and 156 seats. Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defence bloc won 14.15 per cent of the vote and 72 seats. The two blocs formed a majority coalition with 228 votes and Yulia Tymoshenko was elected by the Supreme Council as Prime Minister December 18, 2007. The Communists and the Lytvyn Bloc won 27 and 20 seats, respectively.
