Reaction by the leaders and representatives of parliamentary factions to the presidential decision to dissolve Parliament and call an early election has been swift.
The leader of the Party of Regions, Viktor Yanukovych, said the president's decision was the passing bell for the current authorities. He said that his force is ready to take part in the early election. MP Roman Zvarych of the propresidential Our Ukraine-People's Self-Defence said the President's decision was entirely expected and hoped that during the current plenary week MPs would make all the changes to legislation necessary to hold the early election - in particular, for financing the process. One of his colleagues in the faction, former defence minister Anatoliy Hrytsenko, considers Yushchenko's decision a crime against the country, because during the current world economic crisis government members and regional governors will be engaged in politics and not the economy. Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc MP Andriy Portnov has said the bloc consider the decree to be anti-constitutional. He said the bloc would not vote for any of the laws needed for implementation of the decision. |
