President Viktor Yushchenko has given lawmakers time to formulate proposals on how to resolve the political crisis. He was speaking during consultations on Parliament’s dissolution in Kyiv today, the presidential press service has reported.
"I am giving you this time. Following today's consultations, it is important for the leaders of parliamentary factions to initiate the settlement of those issues which should be adopted in parliament to end the impasse. Run forward or run backward but put forth proposals on how we will resolve this deadlock," he said. Yushchenko warned lawmakers not to resort to demagoguery regarding the global financial crisis during the formulation of these proposals. "Demagoguery about the global financial crisis, the global crisis, the credit crunch, the stock crisis - please do not take all these empty words to make the internal situation in Ukraine tense," he said, adding that the main challenge facing the country’s economy was high inflation resulting from the populist and thoughtless policy in the first quarter of this year. He said that they must distance themselves from politics to adopt anti-crisis economic solutions.
