President Viktor Yushchenko has given lawmakers one more day to pass changes to electoral laws and will then dissolve Parliament, unless a new coalition is formed, Volodymyr Lytvyn, the leader of the eponymous bloc, has said. "The President said that we have one day," he was quoted as telling reporters after attending consultations held today called by the President to discuss the fate of Parliament.
Lytvyn said he had no doubts that Yushchenko would call an early election but added that he would not disband Parliament if MPs manage to forge a formal majority. He said he had asked the President whether he would sign a dissolution decree if a new coalition was formed. "The answer was as follows: I gave 30 days and I waited for another six days. There is no result. However, if there are 227 signatures, not decisions passed by factions, but signatures, I will agree to this," he said.
