Speaker sums up parliamentary work of sixth session PDF Print E-mail

Parliamentary speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn today summed up the work of the sixth session of the Ukrainian Parliament prior to closing it on the evening of July 10. He said that during the session, which opened on February 2, the Parliament formed a new ruling, the Stability and Reforms coalition, consisting of the Party of Regions faction, Communist Party, Lytvyn Bloc and independent MPs after the election of Viktor Yanukovych as president.

 

This session also endorsed the state budget for 2010 and voted to prolong the period of deployment of the Russian Black Sea fleet in Ukraine till 2042. Over 51 days of plenary work saw a total of 771 issues discussed and relevant decisions taken on them taken. Several government hour question sessions involving ministers of the Ukrainian Cabinet of Ministers were also held on Fridays. Parliamentary hearings on specific themes were also held. A total of 1,083 draft bills were discussed and voted on.

As of the end of the session, a total of 73 endorsed laws had been signed and enacted, of which six dealt with ratification of international treaties and agreements and 57 related to amendments to current legislation. As of the end of the session, a total of 1,269 bills were at the stage of being worked on by parliamentary committees.

The seventh session of the sixth convocation of Parliament is scheduled to open on September 7.

Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption issued printed copies of the new Law of Ukraine “On Trafficking in Persons”

In November 2011 the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption issued printed copies of the new Law of Ukraine “On Trafficking in Persons” which went into effect on October 15, 2011 as well as related revised articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the Code of Administrative Violations.
