Deputy Prime Minister for the Economy Serhiy Tyhypko answered questions posed by MPs at the latest government hour session held at this morning's plenary sitting of the Ukrainian Parliament. He initially answered questions submitted in writing in advance by MPs from the opposition Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc and Our Ukraine People's Self-Defence Bloc factions. Afterwards, opposition MPs as well as those from the ruling coalition had the opportunity to ask questions verbally.

Tyhypko answered questions specifically on taxation issues and the work of the State Tax Administration and its working relationship on a daily basis with companies and individual entrepreneurs. However, most questions focused on the tax burden, personal and company taxation and, in particular, the Tax Code, consideration of which is at the second reading stage. Opposition MPs were very critical of Tyhypko and the current Cabinet of Ministers over the quality of the provisions contained in the code.

On June 4 Parliament also held a government question hour with deputy premier Tyhypko. However, on that occasion most of the questions related to broader economic issues, like the likely receipt of IMF loans and priority areas of economic policy.
