| Parliament adopts changes in first reading to Constitution on term in office of local councils |

The Ukrainian Parliament today adopted a draft bill (№4177) on changes in the first reading to the Constitution of Ukraine on the term in office of local councils and heads. A total of 396 MPs voted in favor.
The draft aims to bring conformity to the period of powers of the Supreme Council of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, local councils and the mayors of villages, towns and cities by adopting changes to part 1 of Article 136 and parts 1 and 2 of Article 141 of the Constitution of Ukraine. The bill proposes that the term in office of mayors of villages, towns and cities elected at scheduled elections be five years.
