The Ukrainian Parliament today sent the Tax Code for discussion by the Ukrainian people. A total of 250 MPs voted in favor of the relevant resolution, which was tabled by speaker Volodymyr Lytvyn. He argued that the Tax Code is very important and there are many amendments to be discussed at the second reading stage.
Lytvyn said that the Cabinet of Ministers is obliged to organize discussion of the provisions of the Tax Code and to then collate the opinions of the general public and pass them to the relevant parliamentary committee. However, MPs of the parliamentary opposition diagreed and argued that any public discussion should have taken place prior to adoption, as the Tax Code was adopted in the first reading on June 17.
Consideration and adoption of the Tax Code in the second reading was expected to take place today.
