The Ukrainian Parliament today failed to dismiss five judges of the Constitutional Court for breach of oath. Voting to dismiss judges Mykhaylo Kolos, Anatoliy Holovin, Pavlo Tkachuk, Vyacheslav Ovcharenko and Mariya Markush failed to garner the necessary minimum of 226 votes.
Members of the opposition Our Ukraine People’s Self-Defence Bloc and Yulia Tymoshenko Bloc voted in favor of dismissing them. MP Roman Zvarych initiated the relevant resolution on dismissal. Opposition MPs argued that these judges had breached their oath and had adopted an anti-constitutional ruling allowing the parliamentary coalition to consist not only of parliamentary factions but individual MPs.
