The political council of the opposition People's Self-Defence party has expelled MPs Oleh Novikov and Kateryna Lukyanova from the party for defecting to the ruling parliamentary coalition, the party's press service has said in a statement.
"By defecting to the ruling coalition, former party members Novikov and Lukyanova have taken a step which is incompatible with the party statute and general party norms of human morality. They betrayed those, thanks to whom, they became MPs. The step by people whom ordinary party members until recently trusted has become a serious moral blow to the party," the press service said.
Therefore, People's Self-Defence's political council expelled the two aforementioned MPs from the party "for actions incompatible with the statute's provisions and the party's program". People's Self-Defence also announced the termination of the existence of the party group in Parliament. "Only the imperfections of Ukrainian legislation do not allow the party to recall its former representatives in Parliament," the press service said.
