In November 2011 the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Fighting Organized Crime and Corruption issued printed copies of the new Law of Ukraine “On Trafficking in Persons” which went into effect on October 15, 2011 as well as related revised articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine and the Code of Administrative Violations.
The e-version of the printed law is on the Committee’s website.

On November 17-18 PDP II supported a series of training sessions conducted at the European Information Support Center (EISC) of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine. The sessions focused on building skills to conduct legal research using the Westlaw database available through the EISC. Legal experts from among the Verkhovna Rada staff and MPs’ aides as well as interns of the Parliamentary Internship Program working in various parliamentary committees and departments of the VR Secretariat participated in the trainings.

Round-table on "Prospects for the development of inter-municipal cooperation" was held in the Verkhovna Rada` of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea (VR ARC). The round-table was organized jointly by the VR ARC and the Parliamentary Development Project for Ukraine (PDP II). The round table was attended by VR ARC members and their assistants, VR ARC staff, members of the Association of Local Authorities of Crimea and Sevastopol, representatives of district councils and rayon district administrations of Crimea.

November 11, in the framework of collaboration between PDP II and the Secretariat of the Cabinet of Ministries of Ukraine with the support of National Academy of Public Administration a seminar for civic council’s representatives of eastern regions of Ukraine was held in Kharkiv. The participants were heads of civic councils attached to the local state administrations in Kharkiv, Sumy, Donetsk, Luhansk and Poltava regions.
The seminar was attended by about 100 of participants. They were informed, in particular of the Government's measures to promote civil society, public involvement in decision making process, and implementing public policy. In turn, heads of civic councils were able to express their views on the cooperation with executive bodies, as well as share their experience of such collaboration. Participants were also introduced to important aspects of the Law of Ukraine "On Access to Public Information". The program included training on anti-corruption legislation and anti-corruption public expertise, as well as Problem Solving Method training.

Verkhovna Rada Deputy Secretary General Dmytro Markov and USAID Mission Deputy Director Sarah Wines today greeted interns and provided ID-cards to 102 new selected interns in USAID’s 2011-2012 Parliamentary and Executive Internship Program. This is the seventeenth year of the Parliamentary Internship Program’s operation and the fourth year of the Executive Internship Program’s operation in Ukraine.

October 27-28, in collaboration with the School of Senior Civil Service, PDP II conducted training on "Use of the Problem Solving Method for Law Drafting and Policy Analysis.”
The participants were heads and deputy heads of structural divisions of ministries and central authorities whose responsibilities include the development and analysis of legal acts.
